Thailand Holiday Guide

To see Thailand properly, you will have to set aside several months for your visit. The Thai capital, Bangkok, has wonderful museums, a vibrant nightlife, and a vast array of shops perhaps unmatched by any in Southeast Asia. The National Museum has an excellent collection, and don’t miss the Vinmanmek Teak Mansion, a three-storey, 81-room royal summer palace, built entirely out of teakwood. The nearby resort of Pattaya is renown for its beaches, seafood restaurants and nightlife, but be sure to visit Koh Lan, a coral island 7.5 km from Pattaya. Further southward, the island of Koh Samui has white-sand beaches, coral reefs supporting a rich diversity of marine life, and crystal blue waters perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

Many Thailand holiday villas are located in Phuket. Popular Phuket, a holiday island in the south of Thailand, has all the water activities of Pattaya, plus virgin rainforest, with barking deer, bears, monkeys and gibbons, as well as waterfalls at Ton Sai and Bang Pae. Nearby Phi Phi Island has more snorkeling opportunities. Once you’ve had your fill of the coast and the capital, head to northern Thailand for the hill resorts of Chiang Mai and Chaing Rai, where you can see people living traditional rural lifestyles, take an elephant ride through the jungles, and walk the hill trails. The night markets of Chiang Mai are particularly interesting.
