New Zealand Holiday Guide
New Zealand has two main islands: the North Island, where the majority of the population resides, and the mountainous South Island, with much arable farmland and dramatic scenery. The country’s diverse geography includes beautiful beaches, ancient rainforests, snow-capped mountains, glacial lakes, wild rivers, and thermal springs. Even the holiday rentals in New Zealand are diverse and spectacular.
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand and is home to around one third of the nation’s population. It is a beautiful harbour city that is regarded as the capital of the South Pacific. In the south of the North Island, the nation’s capital, Wellington, is a compact and culturally vibrant city. Its Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, has an excellent collection of Maori art. One of the best places to experience Maori culture is at the Tamaki Maori Village in Rotorua, where there are dance performances and craft displays. The Bay of Islands, in the Northland region of the North Island, is perfect for sailing and game fishing.
Queenstown, in the South Island, is billed as the ’Adventure Capital of the World’, and here you have a choice of white-water rafting, bungy jumping, jet-boat rides, heli-skiing, skydiving, and luging. Christchurch, on the east coast of the South Island has a relaxed English feel. New Zealand has a thriving wine industry and many vineyards offer cellar-door tastings. You’ll need a rental car to fully explore the country and a great value accommodation option is a self-catering apartment.
