Italy Holiday Guide

There are so many beautiful destinations for holidays in Italy that you will find it impossible to cover them in one trip. It’s best to plan your Italian holiday accommodation with the distances between your chosen destinations in mind. If you start in Rome, you can take in historical sites such as the Colosseum, the Forum and the Pantheon, and the romantic Spanish Steps. Although a sovereign state, the nearby Vatican City features the magnificent Apostolic Palace, with its stunning Sistine Chapel, as well as the Vatican Museum.

Heading northward, Florence offers the art treasures of the Uffizi Gallery, the stunning Duomo and the medieval Ponte Vecchio Bridge. Drive to Tuscany and take in its sublime landscapes, before stopping at a vineyard to sample local wines. If you visit Siena, this southern Tuscan walled city is at its best early in the morning or at sunset.

Further north is Venice, with its St Mark's Basilica, Doge's Palace and the famed St Mark's Square. Explore the canals, look for interesting shops, and take a gondola ride. To the east of Venice is Milan, home of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, The Last Supper, at the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. And, of course, La Scala, the world capital of opera.

To the south of Rome at Naples, you can visit the impressive Museo Archeologico Nazionale, which has an excellent collection of Greco-Roman artefacts, and nearby are the remains of Pompeii. Take a boat from Naples, to Sicily to relax on one of its many beaches and explore the archeological remains of past invading cultures.
