And explore the narrow medieval streets of the Gothic Quarter with its many old buildings.

If you’re pushed for time, explore the city using the Barcelona City Hop-on Hop-off Tour which covers three different routes. Gaudi's bizarre Parc Guell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is another must-see, as is the architect’s dramatic, and still un-finished, Sagrada Familia. The Picasso Museum displays works from the blue and pink periods. Afterwards, ascend Montjuic via the funicular, for a panoramic view of the city and harbour.

As well as the numerous attractions within the city itself there are some great day trips to be enjoyed if you rent a car. The beautiful Costa Brava with its pretty coves and fishing villages is just an hour or so north of the city. To the south you will find the increasingly popular wine and Cava producing region of the Penedes. The nearest ski resorts are less than 2 hours from Barcelona.
