Australia Holiday Guide

Australia has six states and two territories. a coastline measuring around 37,000 kilometres, and almost 770,0000 square kilometres of territory, so don’t expect to see all that the sixth largest country in the world has to offer in a short visit. For instance, it takes around 35 hours to drive the 3,000 kilometres from temperate Melbourne in the south, to tropical Cairns in North Queensland – without stopping. Most visitors opt to visit Sydney, the nation’s largest city, the Red Centre with its iconic Uluru, and Cairns with its coral reefs and rainforests.

New South Wales, located in eastern Australia, is the most populated state. Its capital, Sydney, is home to a magnificent harbour and the splendid Opera House. Queensland, the state to its north, has attractions such as the glitzy Gold Coast, the capital Brisbane, and the world's largest marine park, The Great Barrier Reef. To the south of New South Wales is the state of Victoria, with stately Melbourne as its capital, while to the west is South Australia with Adelaide as its major city. In the west, Western Australia is a resource rich state, with its capital Perth and diverse scenery ranging from forests to deserts. The island state of Tasmania lies to the south of Victoria. The two territories are ACT, which is home to the nation’s capital Canberra, and the Northern Territory, a mostly arid zone, which also includes Uluru and Kakadu national parks.
