Costa Rica Vacation Guide
Costa Rica vacation homes are becoming increasingly more popular with tourists from around the world. The Central American nation of Costa Rica sits between Panama and Nicaragua, and the capital, San José, set in the middle of the country, in a fertile valley, has a population of one million. The city is best explored on foot, and the outdoor cafes, stall vendors, and food markets all make for interesting shopping. Also, there are interesting museums, lovely old churches and well-kept parks to search out. The high season for visitors is the dry season, from December through April, since during the rainy season, May to November, the back roads become less trafficable.
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve features platforms set hundreds of feet above the ground, allowing prime views of the rainforest canopy. North of the capital is Costa Rica’s most active volcano, Arenal, where you’ll find the Tabacon Hot springs, and vantage points for viewing the daily small explosions and lava flows. On the Pacific coast, especially around the Nicoya Peninsula, surfing is popular and this is a prime whale watching area in winter. Costa Rica is fast becoming a favoured golfing destination and, during the rainy season, a top destination for white-water rafting, when Costa Rica’s rivers turn to raging torrents.
